Reactions of the overoxidation of fatty acids involve initial formation of the {omega}-hydroxy acid, followed by oxidation, which proceeds in a manner yet to be characterized. The postulated path shown requires NADPH-dependent conversion to the fatty aldehyde and the {alpha},{omega}-dicarboxylic acid (19).
